Radiology
The Radiology Department provides diagnostic imaging services for both inpatients and outpatients.
General Radiology
General Radiology or "x-rays" are provided utilizing a general x-ray room, a combination x-ray/fluoroscopy (live x-ray) room, a portable x-ray unit and a portable fluoroscopic c-arm unit. General x-rays and used to diagnose many various diseases, disorders, and trauma injuries that can affect the body.
Mammography
Attention all Mammo Patients!
Computed Tomography
CT services are provided by a digital computer together with a high speed, multi-slice, rotating x-ray device. This unit creates detailed cross-sectional and/or 3-dimentional images or "slices" of body tissues and organs. CT imaging is particularly useful because it can show several types of tissue - lung, bone, soft tissue, and blood vessels - with great clarity. The body can literally be examined one narrow slice at a time, which makes diagnosing problems such as cancers, infection, trauma injuries, muscle and bone disorders, and kidney and abdominal organ disorders much easier.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound services are provided utilizing the ultrasound computer unit, special computer software, and several transducers (small, microphone-like devices). The transducer is placed over the area being examined, then it transmits harmless, high-frequency sound waves through the skin which bounces off certain organs and tissues in the body, creating "echoes". These echoes are reflected back through the transducer and utilized by the computer software to produce the moving images displayed by the computer. Ultrasound can help detect, diagnose, or monitor such things as heart and blood vessel problems, abdominal and pelvis disorders, breast abnormalities/cancer, and a variety of other type problems. It is also very commonly used during pregnancy to assess and monitor the unborn baby.
Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine services are provided, utilizing an orbiting gamma camera, treadmill (if necessary) and computer to produce the images. A very small amount of radioactive material (isotope), which is targeted to specific organs and tissues, is introduced into the body. The isotope gives off gamma-rays which are detected by the special camera. The computer then uses the information, from the camera, to generate the images. Nuclear Medicine Exams provide valuable information about how organs and tissues function, which can help detect a wide variety of conditions such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis and infection to name a few.
MRI
MRI services are provided in house with a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit. MRI produces extremely precise 2 or 3 dimensional images using magnetic, radio waves, and computer (No x-rays). These images are helpful in detecting many types of injuries, disorders, and diseases associated with such areas as the brain and nervous systems, muscular systems, skeletal systems, and other areas of the body. MRI may also be useful in detecting cancer in some organs and tissues.
